We are blessed to have people like these in our lives. I hope we all remember to pray for them every day. These men and women are on the front lines of the spiritual battle. The work they do on our behalf and for the good of the Church is crucial.
I was always taught by my father to say thank you every time someone did something for me. He was very strong about that! And it is a good way to live. We have so many things to be thankful for, but we can get complacent about being grateful. It only takes a minute to thank a priest for what they do or for the inspiring words in a homily. The same applies for our deacons and religious brothers and sisters. Look them in the eye and say thank you.
God gave us the gift of our priesthood. They were chosen for us. “I will feast the soul of the priests with abundance, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says the Lord” (Jeremiah 31:14) They have a huge responsibility in the eyes of God. We look to them for guidance and counsel. We trust they will lead us on the right path for our salvation. “For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and men should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.” (Malachi 2:7)
As for me, I want them to do a good job! So, let’s be sure to pray for them every day. All of our priests, deacons and religious brothers and sisters, give of themselves for the good of all. What better way to say thank you than to pray for them.
