It seems that among us, there is a strong proclivity to put things off. We always have tomorrow. I subscribe to being a “do it now” person. For one reason, if you do something immediately there is one less thing to have to remember!
Faith and good works are crucial for our salvation. But how many times do we put off doing things and then they never get done? We say we will volunteer for something as soon as we get the time…the time never comes. We tell someone we will pray for them but we part ways and forget to do so. We say we are going to read scripture but we never do.
We are only on earth to work for our salvation. The priority has to be in that. All the things we know we need to do and are planning to do, need to be done now. If someone needs prayer pray for them and with them now. If the situation does not lend itself to that, pray for them silently but immediately. Take the time for reading scripture and the works of the saint. Take time every day for prayer. We have to do the things we know must be done…NOW!
Life gets in the way, and when this happens I notice a difference in how I feel and how I engage with life. When life gets in the way, I suffer. This is because life as we know it in the secular sense is not where we are called to be. We live here in the world but we are of God. We are to be with him.
What are we putting first? Are we putting God off? Our days are limited and we must be prepared. It is a huge gamble to put off until tomorrow when tomorrow is not guaranteed. Pray and live with a sense of urgency. Prepare well for the day we will be held accountable. Do it now.
“For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ” (1 Thessalonians 5:2)
