Dedicate: to set apart for, or devote to, a special purpose.
Dedicated: devoted; faithful
Everyone seems to be dedicated, but to what? I think we are dedicated to and dedicate things without being aware that we are and what the fruit of that dedication will be. We are dedicated to our jobs, our past-times, our friendships, etc. The people in this Country are very dedicated to football and even dedicate the Lord’s Day to it!
It is good to take time and reflect on this for our own lives. We should be dedicated to our Catholic faith, to a life of obedience to God and to prayer. We should also dedicate the Lord’s Day to Him. Let it not be a day to mindlessly rest or do nothing, let it not be a day to catch up on things we did not complete during the week. We should be dedicated to daily prayer and time before God to hear what He is saying to us in regard to His will for our lives. We can best do this by dedicating a specific time to do just that. Pick a time for prayer at home every day, pick a day for Adoration and a Holy Hour. We will not be perfect in these matters, but it is the effort that is important. Strive to be perfect!
“I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you will prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romas 12:1-2) Think about this for yourself as you pray the 4th of the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary – The Presentation. How are we presenting ourselves to the Lord?
“Do now – do now – what you’ll wish you had done when your moment comes to die” (St. Angela Merici – founder of the company of St. Ursula, the first secular institute)
