Men's Rosary

Trust, a small word with a huge meaning. We trust in many ways and in many things. Some of the things we put our trust in are not anything to trust at all. We might trust that our job will bring security to our family, but that is only a decision away from an executive which could leave us out of a job. We might trust that our retirement account will provide for us, but that is only a downturn in the market away from not meeting those needs. We might trust that our family will bring us happiness, but that is only an attitude or unforgiveness away from disfunction. We might trust in the shepherds of our Church to lead, but that is easily shaken by weakness and bad decisions on their part.

The world teaches us to trust in a very temporal way. The trust of the world is temporary and erratic. These things we trust in to gain the sought-after reward or consolation are incapable of providing it due to their very nature. There really is only on place to put our trust and be guaranteed it will provide for us in matters of family, financial means, friendships, Church life, and all other areas of our life. That trust is trust in God alone. “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and has become my salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2) It will serve us well to spend less time on worrying about tomorrow and the actions of men and to spend more time getting to know God’s will for our lives. Time spent listening to God through the Scriptures will direct our lives to him, who is all goodness and who will protect us. “Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” (Proverbs 30:5)

Regardless of what the world throws at us, what disappointments come our way, what others may say about us or do to us, our failings, and short-comings, or how overwhelming things seem, God will see us through. He will protect us and give us sure direction.

My Refuge and My Fortress – Psalm 91

1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will saya to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.

9Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refugeb—
10no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.

11For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.

14“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
